About Colliga
Colliga builds science-based digital mental-wellness programs — turning peer-reviewed research on how people think, feel, and change into practical, structured tools people use in daily life. Programs like Assertiveness 101, Stress Relief, and Burnout Reset combine AI coaching, surveys, and rich multimedia content, developed with scientists and refined through ongoing research.
People use a cross-platform mobile app; program authors and admins work in a real-time web console. We ship to iOS and Android on a production Phoenix backend with background processing, S3 media, and third-party integrations (AI, payments, e-signature, push).
Because we handle sensitive mental-health data, privacy and careful data handling are first-class engineering concerns.
Why This Matters
Most research on how people cope, grow, and change never reaches the people it could help. You'll build the product that closes that gap — evidence-based tools that measurably improve real users' mental well-being, backed by scientists and federally funded research. Your code ships to people on a hard day.
The Role
You'll work across the whole stack — Phoenix on the backend, React Native on mobile — owning features end to end: schema and business logic on one side, screens and state on the other. It's a broad role, so we look for T-shaped engineers: genuinely deep on one side (backend or mobile) and comfortable moving across the whole thing. You treat sensitive user data with the care a mental-health product demands.
Day to day, you'll:
Build features across API and mobile — models, contexts, endpoints, screens, state.
Design database schemas and migrations, and write queries that hold up under real data volume.
Wire up and maintain integrations (AI coaching, in-app purchases, notifications).
Keep the mobile app fast and stable on iOS and Android.
Write tests and keep CI green.
Handle release builds and store submissions across environments.

Must Have
Strong backend engineering fundamentals. You're either already productive in Elixir/Phoenix, or an excellent backend engineer (ideally with functional experience) ready to go deep in it fast — we'll support the ramp, but the bar for backend judgment is high from day one.
Production React Native + TypeScript experience, including state management and native build tooling for both platforms.
Solid relational database skills — schema design, indexing, query performance.
Comfort owning a feature end to end and integrating third-party APIs.
Git, CI/CD, and code-review discipline.
Nice to Have
Phoenix LiveView and real-time (Channels / PubSub).
Background job systems.
Cloud (AWS) and mobile in-app purchase / receipt-validation flows.
Push notifications, e-signature, localization.
Digital health, mental-wellness, or EdTech domain experience.
Handling sensitive / PII data: encryption, de-identification, privacy by design.
How We Work
Small team, high ownership, direct communication.
Tests and CI are non-negotiable; we review each other's code.
Multi-environment releases (dev / staging / prod) to real users on both app stores.
Logistics
10-20hrs
Fully remote — work from anywhere. We don't care where you are, as long as you overlap a few hours a day with US Central time for collaboration.
