Senior MERN Stack Developer for E-commerce Technical Audit & Consultation

We’re looking for an experienced MERN stack developer to audit an existing e-commerce website for sports nutrition products, including protein powders, creatine, pre-workouts, and other supplements, and provide consultation on further development. The product catalog and customer account area are already built. Before moving forward, we need an independent technical assessment of the current implementation and a clear plan for completing the platform. Our next planned features include payment integration and an admin dashboard for collecting and managing orders and tracking store statistics. This initial engagement is focused on an audit and consultation. There may be an opportunity to continue with implementation afterward. What you’ll work on - Review the existing MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js codebase - Assess the architecture, code quality, database structure, security, and performance - Review the product catalog and customer account functionality - Identify bugs, technical debt, missing functionality, and potential development risks - Assess readiness for cart, checkout, and payment integration - Recommend a suitable payment provider and integration approach - Advise on order creation, payment status tracking, and customer order history - Define the scope of an admin dashboard for order management and statistics, including revenue, order count, and best-selling products - Recommend which parts of the existing implementation to keep, improve, or refactor - Provide a prioritized development roadmap with estimated effort and dependencies - Walk us through your findings and answer questions Expected deliverables - A concise written audit with findings ranked by priority - Practical recommendations for architecture, security, and performance improvements - A proposed scope for payment integration and the admin dashboard - A phased development plan with rough time and cost estimates, including assumptions - A consultation call to discuss findings and next steps Required experience - Strong MERN stack experience: MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js - Experience auditing and taking over existing applications - Experience with e-commerce platforms, payment integrations, and order management - Knowledge of REST APIs, authentication, authorization, and database design - Ability to explain technical findings clearly and provide practical recommendations - Experience estimating development scope and effort Nice to have - Experience with Stripe or PayPal - Experience building admin dashboards and e-commerce analytics - E-commerce performance optimization and SEO experience Sports nutrition, supplements, or similar e-commerce experience
