Senior Software Engineer

About Amanahfy Amanahfy is a UK-based Islamic fundraising-technology platform, built on Amanah (trust). We power online giving for some of the UK's largest Muslim charities donations, Gift Aid, recurring giving, peer-to-peer campaigns and large multi-charity campaign platforms. We're a small, fast-moving team shipping real product to real charities, and we're scaling up. The role We're hiring a senior full-stack engineer who can hit the ground running. The work sits on both sides of the API line: building product surfaces on top of our existing platform, and designing and building new public-facing APIs that external partners will consume. We need someone genuinely excellent with APIs — someone who thinks carefully about contracts, versioning, authentication, error states and edge cases without being told to, because once an API is public you live with the decisions you made. This is a senior role in a small team, which means you own things end to end. You won't be handed a perfectly isolated ticket and shielded from everything else. You'll be in the codebase, in the review queue, in the incident, and in the conversation about what we should build next. What the job actually looks like day to day Building and shipping features across the stack — React / Next.js on the front end, Node.js services and APIs on the back end. Designing, building and documenting public-facing APIs for external partners and third-party integrators: clean contracts, sensible versioning, solid authentication, clear errors, and documentation good enough that someone can integrate without emailing us. Integration work — wiring our platform APIs into new product surfaces, plus third-party services. Data modelling and schema design; writing efficient queries and knowing why a slow one is slow. Writing tests that are actually worth having, and keeping the build green. Reviewing your teammates' pull requests properly — not rubber-stamping — especially on security- and data-critical paths. Debugging production issues: reading logs and traces, forming a hypothesis, fixing the cause rather than the symptom, and writing up what happened. Performance and reliability work — caching, query tuning, bundle size, page load, error rates. Security basics as a matter of habit: authentication and authorisation, input validation, secrets handling, dependency hygiene, OWASP-level awareness. Deployments and CI/CD — you're comfortable shipping your own work and rolling it back if it misbehaves. Breaking work down, estimating it honestly, flagging slippage early, and keeping tickets and documentation current. Pushing back on requirements when something doesn't make sense, and proposing the simpler option. Mentoring: raising the bar for the engineers around you through review, pairing and example. Core platform work you'll touch A multi-country, multi-tenant fundraising microsite built in Next.js: registration and fundraising-page flows, leaderboards, challenges, auctions (pledge-pot model), event ticketing. Tenant isolation, data integrity and reliability across our white-label, dashboard and reporting surfaces. You'll be a strong fit if you have 5+ years building and shipping production web applications, with deep Node.js and React / Next.js experience (MERN-style stack). Exceptional API skills, on both sides: you've designed and shipped public or partner-facing APIs that other people built against, and you're equally comfortable consuming and debugging someone else's. Confident with API authentication (OAuth / API keys / JWT), versioning, rate limiting, pagination, webhooks, retries, idempotency and failure handling. Experience documenting APIs properly (OpenAPI/Swagger or equivalent) — we want integrators to succeed without hand-holding. Strong data modelling instincts and solid database experience (SQL or NoSQL), including multi-tenant data design. A track record of picking up an unfamiliar codebase quickly and being productive inside the first week or two. The ability to review others' code to a high standard and give feedback that lands well. Care for correctness and detail under deadline pressure — our users are charities and their donors, so mistakes are costly. Excellent written and spoken English, and a collaborative working style. You keep your team unblocked, communicate proactively and don't disappear into silos. Nice to have Multi-tenant / multi-country SaaS architecture. Payment gateway integrations (Stripe, PayPal, GoCardless and similar) — useful but not required. Fintech, payments, or fundraising/charity domain experience. Headless CMS experience. TypeScript; cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS); CI/CD pipelines; containerisation. Observability tooling — logging, monitoring, error tracking. Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows — we use Claude Code and CodeRabbit day-to-day. How we work Small pods, clear ownership, AI-augmented (Claude Code for build, CodeRabbit for first-pass review). Properly specified tickets, real estimates and protected sprints — we're investing in getting delivery tight. Mission-driven: the work funds real humanitarian causes. Engagement Full-time, long-term (40 hrs/week), fully remote. Three-month probation period. Strong performers continue on a long-term, ongoing basis and become part of the senior backbone of our engineering team.
