WordPress Developer - Site Support & Automation

The role We have a growing base of WordPress clients who need ongoing support: new pages, content updates, troubleshooting, small feature builds, landing page duplication for campaigns. We also build new client sites from scratch, sometimes from a design handed over as a static XD/Figma file, sometimes from other workflows. On top of that, we're building out automation (Make.com or similar) to connect forms, CRM, quote tools and email. Right now this all lands on one developer, which means the small, constant stuff crowds out the bigger technical work. We're hiring to fix that split: someone who owns the volume of day-to-day site requests and automation builds, competently and independently, so bigger builds don't get derailed by a duplicated landing page. This is not a Technical Lead role. It's a genuine WordPress developer role, just scoped to different work. What you'll actually be doing - Ongoing maintenance across our client base: new pages, content and copy updates, plugin/theme troubleshooting, minor feature additions - Duplicating and adapting landing pages and templates for campaigns and quotes - Building new WordPress sites from scratch, including from a static design file (XD/Figma), using ACF where the build calls for it - Converting existing HTML builds into working WordPress themes when that's the chosen route for a project - Building and maintaining automations in Make.com (or equivalent): connecting forms, CRM, quote tools, email and other client-facing systems - Routine site health: updates, backups, basic security and performance checks - Flagging anything that needs deeper architectural work to the Technical Lead rather than patching around it - Working from written briefs with minimal oversight, and closing the loop on your own initiative rather than waiting to be chased What we need from you - Real WordPress fundamentals. Comfortable in the PHP and theme structure when something breaks, not just in the dashboard. Fluent with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields), including building custom fields and templates from a design, not just editing existing ones. HTML/CSS/JS competency, enough to convert a static build into a working WordPress theme when needed. - Make.com or Zapier experience, building and troubleshooting real automations, not just following a template. - Reliability, non-negotiably. This role exists because small requests were slipping. If you take something on, it gets done or you flag the problem early, not at the deadline. - Genuine independent competence in the fundamentals first. We're happy for you to use AI tools to work efficiently, but we need someone who understands what they're building well enough to catch and fix what a tool gets wrong. Presenting AI output as finished work without checking it is a fast way to lose this contract. - Comfortable managing a queue of 10 to 15 small concurrent requests without anything falling through. - WooCommerce experience is a strong plus. - Prior agency-side experience is a strong plus.
