Backend / Cloud Platform Engineer – FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MQTT, React

We are hiring a backend/cloud engineer for an active, paid software development project involving edge devices, real-time event processing, multi-tenant access, and third-party system integrations. The platform receives structured events from edge devices that analyze IP camera streams locally. Raw video is not uploaded to the cloud, and the system does not use facial recognition. This is a fully remote, computer-based contract. The selected freelancer will be hired and paid through Upwork. Scope and deliverables The freelancer will: Develop and document backend APIs using FastAPI or a comparable Python framework. Design the PostgreSQL database structure, migrations, and data-access layer. Implement event communication between edge devices and the cloud using MQTT or a comparable message broker. Develop user, organization, location, and device management. Implement secure authentication and role-based access control. Support a multi-tenant architecture with appropriate data separation. Develop or extend a web dashboard using React and TypeScript. Implement event views, device status, location settings, and user-management screens. Create integration interfaces for POS, WMS, and other third-party systems. Add automated tests, API documentation, logging, and error monitoring. Prepare deployment and maintenance documentation. Required experience Relevant university degree or another verifiable technical qualification. At least two years of professional backend or full-stack development experience. Strong experience with Python and REST API development. Practical experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database. At least one software system delivered and used in production. Experience with Git, testing, and technical documentation. Ability to work independently and communicate technical decisions clearly. Preferred experience FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, or Alembic. MQTT, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or another messaging system. React, TypeScript, and modern frontend development. Multi-tenant SaaS architecture. OAuth2, JWT, role-based access control, and API security. Docker, Linux, CI/CD, and cloud deployment. POS, WMS, ERP, or IoT integrations. Experience working with edge devices or computer vision systems. Initial contract Fully remote. Hourly contract through Upwork. Initial engagement: approximately 15–20 hours per week for four weeks. Potential extension based on the initial delivery. All communication, contracting, work submissions, and payments will remain on Upwork.
