Senior AI Voice & Automation Developer — Natural Conversational AI We are looking for an experienced **AI Voice and Automation Developer** to help improve and expand an existing AI-powered voice system. This is **not** a basic chatbot project and not simply an automated answering service. Our highest priority is creating a voice AI experience that feels **natural, responsive, intelligent, and conversational** — not robotic, scripted, or frustrating. The right developer should understand that excellent voice AI requires much more than connecting an LLM to a phone number. We are looking for someone who understands the entire system: voice, latency, prompting, memory, interruptions, tool calling, CRM integration, automation, and reliability. ## What We Need The AI voice system should be able to: * Carry on natural, fluid conversations. * Listen and respond to what the caller actually says. * Ask one question at a time instead of reading a questionnaire. * Remember information already provided during the conversation. * Avoid repeating questions unnecessarily. * Handle interruptions and barge-in naturally. * Handle pauses, hesitation, incomplete answers, and changes in direction. * Maintain context throughout longer conversations. * Respond correctly when callers provide information out of order. * Keep responses concise and conversational. * Minimize awkward delays between the caller and the AI. * Trigger external actions based on what happens during the conversation. * Save information into a CRM. * Send text messages and trigger automations. * Transfer or escalate calls when appropriate. * Recognize when it should stop handling something and involve a human. * Operate reliably in a real production environment. Our goal is **not to deceive people into believing the AI is human**. Our goal is to create an experience that feels extremely natural, easy, intelligent, and professional. ## Existing System An initial version of the system has already been developed. Your first responsibility will be to review the current implementation and determine what should be: **KEPT — FIXED — IMPROVED — REBUILT — or REMOVED** We do not want someone who immediately wants to rebuild everything without first understanding what already exists. You should be comfortable reviewing an existing system, identifying weaknesses, recommending improvements, implementing changes, testing them, and documenting the work. ## Required / Preferred Technical Experience Strong experience with several of the following is preferred: * **Vapi or comparable production voice AI platforms** * OpenAI APIs / LLM integration * Conversational AI architecture * Advanced prompt engineering * Voice / TTS integrations * Twilio * GoHighLevel or similar CRM platforms * APIs * Webhooks * Function calling / tool calling * JavaScript and/or Python * CRM integrations * Workflow automation * Structured data capture from AI conversations Experience building **production AI voice agents** is especially important. ## We Are Particularly Interested in Someone Who Understands * Voice latency optimization * Turn-taking * Barge-in and interruption handling * End-of-turn detection * Conversational memory * Context management * Prompt architecture * Function and tool execution * Natural conversational pacing * Preventing repetitive AI behavior * Reducing hallucinations * Voice model configuration * Call routing and escalation * CRM synchronization * Webhooks and API integrations * Error handling * Fallback logic * Monitoring * Debugging live voice agents * Testing and quality assurance ## Who We Are Looking For We want someone who: * Has actually built AI voice systems before. * Understands the difference between a demo and a production-ready system. * Is obsessive about conversational quality. * Can troubleshoot complicated integrations. * Can explain technical subjects in plain English. * Communicates clearly with non-technical business owners. * Documents their work. * Tests thoroughly. * Takes ownership of problems. * Can recommend better solutions when appropriate. * Thinks about scalability when designing systems. * Is comfortable working collaboratively. * Is interested in a potential long-term relationship if the initial project goes well.
