Automate Flight Fare Deal Discovery for South African Travel Newsletter

Project Overview: I run Jet Set Go, a South African travel deals newsletter and platform that surfaces cheap flight deals departing Johannesburg (JNB), Cape Town (CPT), and Durban (DUR), priced in ZAR. Deal-finding is currently manual — I need a developer to build an automated system that finds and flags cheap fares so I can review and publish them faster. Scope of work: Build an automated pipeline that regularly checks flight prices out of JNB, CPT, and DUR to a set list of destinations (using a flight data API or another suitable source you recommend) Implement logic to flag "deal" fares — e.g. price drops vs historical average, or below a set ZAR threshold per route Output flagged deals in a structured format (e.g. spreadsheet, database, or webhook) Set up basic scheduling/automation so this runs without manual triggering (e.g. daily/weekly) Existing stack (for context): Newsletter: Beehiiv (custom domain, API-integrated signup forms) Website: WordPress (Hostinger hosting, Elementor) Currently no automated fare-sourcing — this is the missing link Deliverables: Working automated fare-checking system Documentation on how it works and how to maintain/adjust it (e.g. changing routes, thresholds, destinations) Brief handoff call to walk through the setup Ideal skills/experience: Experience with flight/travel data APIs Python or Node.js automation/scripting API integration experience (bonus: Anthropic/Claude API or similar LLM APIs) Comfortable working with a non-technical founder and documenting clearly
