I want to give storm chasers and severe-weather enthusiasts a fast, focused desktop web application that does one thing exceptionally well: show where tornadoes are right now and why the atmosphere is primed for them. Think of it as a lightweight, tornado-only version of MyRadar—no earthquakes, fires, or other distractions. Core functionality • A real-time, auto-refreshing map that plots active tornado warnings, radar-indicated rotation, confirmed debris signatures, and storm-relative velocity data. • In-browser alerts that fire the moment a new warning or tornado-reported observation is issued, with the option to filter by state or custom radius. Interface expectations The layout should be detailed and data-rich, not minimal. I need layered toggles for radar, satellite, SPC outlooks, shear tracks, and basic storm-info panels, all without feeling cluttered on a large desktop monitor. Technical pointers (flexible on exact stack) • Pull live feeds from authoritative sources such as NOAA, NWS, SPC, and MRMS; WebSocket or server-sent events to keep latency low. • Modern mapping tech—Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS, or similar—plus a clean component-based front end (React, Vue, or Svelte are fine). • Well-structured code and docs so I can extend the app later for mobile.
