ABOUT THE PROJECT
I'm building a web-based training tool for tournament (MTT) poker players — preflop range charts, spot drills, and an AI layer that explains the strategy, similar in spirit to existing GTO trainers, covering the full range of tournament stack depths.
The strategy data comes from solver exports and expert-reviewed ranges. The app's job is to store, serve, render, and explain that data cleanly. This is a real product with a defined architecture, not an experiment.
IMPORTANT: this is not a generic CRUD job. You need to genuinely understand poker ranges and solver output. I'm screening hard for this (see the questions below). Applicants who clearly don't know poker won't be considered, no matter how strong the general portfolio.
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD (FIRST MILESTONE)
I want to keep scope tight and prove the working relationship on a focused first milestone:
1) A data model for "solved spots" — a schema that stores, per spot: format, stack depth, ICM/ChipEV mode, position, action node, and a per-hand strategy (a frequency vector over actions).
2) An ingestion / normalization pipeline — takes a solver export (or a reviewer's spreadsheet) and maps it into that schema. Source-agnostic by design.
3) A range-chart UI — the standard 13x13 hand matrix, color-coded by action, correctly rendering mixed-frequency (split) cells.
Later phases — postflop drills, "my spot check" matching, the AI explanation layer, community features — follow if the first milestone goes well. Let's nail this foundation first.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong full-stack: React (front end), a modern backend (Node / Python / etc.), and a document or relational DB (I'm leaning MongoDB).
- Demonstrable poker domain knowledge — you understand ranges, solver outputs, ICM vs ChipEV, and stack-depth dynamics.
- Clean, documented, testable code — this is a foundation others will build on.
STRONGLY PREFERRED
- You've built a poker tool before — a range viewer, trainer, HUD, tracker, solver integration, or similar. Please link it.
- Hands-on experience with solver output from PioSOLVER, MonkerSolver, GTO Wizard, or HRC.
TO APPLY
- Begin your proposal with the word RIVER so I know you read the full post. Proposals without it will be ignored.
- Link at least one relevant project (poker-related strongly preferred).
- Tell me your availability and your rate.
I'm hands-on and know this domain well, so I'll be a responsive, technical point of contact — but I'm hiring because I'm busy with other work and need someone who can own the build without me spelling out the poker fundamentals.
