About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Machine Learning Engineer to join an innovative AI-driven healthcare company as one of the founding members of the machine learning team. In this highly impactful role, you will lead the development of core AI algorithms that power next-generation diagnostic solutions.
You will work at the intersection of computer vision, deep learning, biomedical image analysis, and product development, helping transform large-scale pathology and imaging data into clinically meaningful insights. This position offers significant ownership, technical freedom, and the opportunity to shape both the company's AI strategy and product roadmap.
Responsibilities
Develop, validate, and document advanced deep learning algorithms for extracting molecular and diagnostic information from whole slide images and other medical imaging data
Lead research and experimentation efforts by defining hypotheses, designing experiments, evaluating results, and iterating on novel approaches
Design and develop innovative computer vision and machine learning models to solve real-world healthcare challenges
Collaborate closely with clinical, product, engineering, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable AI solutions
Work alongside data engineering teams to build robust and compliant data pipelines for processing, traceability, and reproducibility
Contribute to the development and scaling of the company's AI platform, including model integration, deployment, optimization, and monitoring
Develop explainability and interpretability methods to increase transparency, clinical trust, and model validation
Support the generation of clinical validation evidence required for regulatory approvals and market adoption
Continuously improve model performance, reliability, and scalability in production environments
Required Qualifications
PhD in Computer Vision, Biomedical Image Analysis, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field
4+ years of industry experience in Computer Vision or Machine Learning
Strong programming skills in Python
Hands-on experience with at least one major deep learning framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
Proven expertise in:
Image segmentation
Object detection
Feature extraction from large-scale and high-resolution image datasets (e.g., whole slide images)
Experience designing and implementing novel deep learning architectures applied to real-world datasets
Minimum 2 years of experience working with:
Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Data pipelines
Deployment of machine learning models into production environments
Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, version control, and collaborative Git workflows
Passion for clean code, documentation, maintainability, and reproducible research
Excellent communication skills in English and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, innovative environment
Valid work authorization within the European Union or Switzerland
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in digital pathology, histopathology, or medical imaging
Academic or professional background in biology, pathology, or life sciences
Understanding of cellular morphology and biological image analysis
Familiarity with regulated healthcare environments and medical device development
Experience with regulatory frameworks such as FDA, CE Marking, IVDR, or similar standards
Knowledge of Explainable AI (XAI) techniques and model interpretability methods
Previous experience working with clinical datasets and healthcare AI products
