Full-Stack React Native & Django Developer for Hospitality POS System

We are building a hospitality-focused Point of Sale (POS) platform for restaurants, cafés, bars, and similar businesses. We need a reliable full-stack developer to build and improve a cross-platform React Native application for iOS, Android, and dedicated Android POS terminals, supported by an existing Django backend. This is an hourly engagement expected to run for approximately 3–6 months. The developer should be comfortable owning features across the mobile frontend, backend APIs, device integrations, testing, and release preparation. Key responsibilities • Build and maintain the POS application using React Native and TypeScript. • Develop and improve backend services with Python, Django, and Django REST Framework. • Connect the mobile application to secure REST APIs and real-time services. • Implement hospitality workflows, including table management, dine-in/takeaway orders, menus, item modifiers, discounts, taxes, service charges, tips, split bills, refunds, kitchen tickets, order statuses, staff roles, shifts, and cash management. • Design reliable offline-first ordering and synchronize data safely when connectivity returns. • Integrate Android POS hardware where required, such as built-in or external receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, customer displays, and payment terminals. • Implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access control. • Diagnose mobile, backend, synchronization, and device-specific problems. • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for critical workflows. • Participate in code reviews, technical planning, documentation, and regular progress reporting. • Help prepare releases for the Apple App Store, Google Play, and supported Android POS devices. Required experience • Strong commercial experience with React Native, TypeScript, and JavaScript. • Production experience with Django and Django REST Framework. • Experience designing and integrating REST APIs. • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or another relational database. • Experience with React Native state management, networking, caching, and local data storage. • Understanding of offline synchronization, retries, idempotency, and conflict resolution. • Experience with authentication, permissions, and secure application development. • Ability to debug native Android and iOS problems. • Experience writing automated tests and using Git-based development workflows. • Clear written communication and the ability to work independently. Highly desirable • Previous POS, restaurant, retail, or hospitality software experience. • Android POS terminal or kiosk development. • Bluetooth, USB, network, or built-in thermal-printer integration. • ESC/POS printer protocol experience. • Payment gateway or payment-terminal integration. • WebSockets or other real-time communication. • Celery, Redis, background jobs, Docker, CI/CD, monitoring, and cloud deployment. • App Store and Google Play release experience. • Familiarity with payment security and PCI-related development practices. Definition of done / acceptance criteria • Core ordering workflows operate correctly on supported iOS, Android, and Android POS devices. • Users can create and manage orders while offline, with transactions synchronizing safely after reconnection without duplication or data loss. • Django APIs are authenticated, permission-controlled, documented, and covered by tests for critical operations. • Required POS hardware integrations work reliably on the agreed target devices. • Critical flows—including order submission, discounts, taxes, payments, refunds, printing, and synchronization—have automated or documented verification. • The application handles errors clearly and records enough diagnostic information to troubleshoot production issues. • Code is maintainable, reviewed, documented, and delivered through the agreed Git workflow. • Release candidates pass agreed device testing and are ready for App Store, Google Play, and Android POS deployment.
