# Full-Stack Developer – Construction Operations Platform ## Project Overview We are looking for an experienced **full-stack software developer** to help build and refine **ModWorks**, a mobile-first construction operations platform designed around modular construction, logistics, project management, and field execution. The platform connects construction companies, project administrators, field personnel, manufacturers, subcontractors, and other project participants within a shared system. It is intended to manage the operational lifecycle of a modular construction project—from company and project setup through module transportation, delivery, installation, task management, and reporting. This is not a simple prototype or CRUD application. We are looking for someone capable of working within a production-oriented architecture and helping develop a polished web and mobile product that can eventually support many companies, projects, users, and field assets. ## Core Platform ModWorks is organized around several primary entities: **Companies** * Create and manage companies * Company locations * Company administrators and members * Service/trade classifications * Company-level project visibility * Users may belong to and administer multiple companies **Projects** * Create and configure construction projects * Assign project administrators * Add participating companies * Manage project teams and permissions * Project dashboards * Project profiles and operational information * Asset/module tracking * Tasks and field workflows * Reports and project history **Users & Permissions** * User accounts and invitations * Company-level and project-level roles * Administrative permissions * Users can participate in multiple companies and projects * Role/ACL-based access control * Account settings and profile management The permissions model is important. A user should not require a separate account simply because they perform multiple roles—for example, the same person may be a Project Administrator and also manage company-level operations. ## Task & Workflow Management The platform includes a project task system supporting: * Project tasks * Task statuses and lifecycle stages * User assignments * Company assignments * File attachments * Module/asset-related tasks * Operational workflow steps * Field completion and status tracking * Automated task creation based on operational events Tasks need to work effectively on both desktop and mobile devices, with the mobile experience optimized for field personnel. ## Modular Construction & Asset Tracking A major differentiator of ModWorks is that it is designed specifically around **modular construction logistics**. Individual building modules/assets can be tracked through their lifecycle, including statuses such as: **Manufacturer → In Transit → Storage → Project Site → Set/Installed** The platform integrates with physical GPS/IoT tracking devices installed on modules. Geofencing and tracker events can automatically update module status and trigger downstream workflows. For example: * A module leaving the manufacturer's geofence can automatically become **In Transit**. * Arrival at a storage facility can change its status to **At Storage**. * Arrival at the construction project can change it to **Arrived on Site**. * Movement into the building/set-area geofence can help identify that the module has been **Set/Installed**. * These events can generate tasks, notifications, timestamps, and project history. Manual overrides must also be supported for field conditions where automated tracking is not sufficient. The system should ultimately be capable of supporting **hundreds to thousands of GPS-tracked assets** across multiple projects. ## Reporting The platform includes operational reporting capabilities such as: * Daily project reports * Module/asset status * Task completion * Project activity * Company/team participation * Automated report generation * Scheduled email distribution * Historical reporting Reporting should be designed so additional report types can be added as the platform grows. ## Web & Mobile Applications The system consists of both a responsive web application and a native/mobile application. The current preferred architecture is: ### Web * Next.js * React * TypeScript * Tailwind CSS * shadcn/ui / Radix-based components * TanStack Query * Zustand where appropriate ### Mobile * React Native * Expo / Expo Router * TypeScript * Shared API/types where practical ### Backend * NestJS / Node.js * TypeScript * REST APIs * PostgreSQL * Shared Zod schemas/types * Structured service architecture The project is structured as a **TypeScript monorepo**, with shared packages for types, API clients, themes, icons, and utilities. ## AWS Infrastructure The application is intended to operate primarily within AWS. Experience with services such as the following is valuable: * ECS / Fargate * RDS or Aurora PostgreSQL * S3 * CloudFront * Route 53 * SES * CloudWatch * Secrets Manager * IAM * Application Load Balancers * VPC/networking * CI/CD deployment into AWS We want infrastructure that is reliable and production-ready without introducing unnecessary complexity or cost. ## External Integrations The system also needs to support integrations with external services, particularly GPS/IoT providers. Current asset tracking utilizes **Jimi IoT / Concox GPS devices**, with ModWorks consuming tracker/geofence events through provider APIs. The architecture should make it possible to support additional hardware providers in the future without rewriting the core asset-tracking system. ## UI/UX Expectations We are looking for more than someone who can simply make functionality work. The platform needs a clean, modern interface appropriate for a professional construction SaaS product. Important UX considerations include: * Mobile-first field workflows * Fast project navigation * Large datasets without cumbersome pagination * Virtualized tables where appropriate * Clear status indicators * Consistent design system * Responsive layouts * Efficient workflows requiring as few interactions as practical * Good loading, empty, success, and error states * Interfaces usable by both technically sophisticated administrators and field personnel ## What We're Looking For The ideal developer is comfortable owning features from database through UI and has strong experience with: * TypeScript * React * Next.js * React Native / Expo * Node.js / NestJS * PostgreSQL * REST API design * AWS * Authentication and authorization * Multi-tenant SaaS architecture * Responsive/mobile-first UI * Git/GitHub workflows * Automated testing * Production deployments Experience with **construction technology, logistics, IoT/GPS systems, mapping/geofencing, or field-service applications** would be particularly valuable. ## Engineering Expectations We want someone who thinks beyond individual tickets. You should be comfortable: * Understanding an existing codebase before making major changes * Identifying architectural problems instead of building around them * Keeping web, mobile, API, and shared packages consistent * Writing maintainable and strongly typed code * Creating reusable components rather than duplicating functionality * Handling edge cases and failure states * Reviewing your own implementation before submitting work * Writing tests for critical business logic * Working through GitHub pull requests * Communicating assumptions and technical tradeoffs * Testing complete user flows rather than only individual components AI-assisted development tools such as **Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar agentic development tools** are welcome. We care about the quality, maintainability, and correctness of the resulting code—not whether AI was used to accelerate development. ## Initial Work Initial work will involve reviewing the existing ModWorks platform and codebase, understanding the architecture and business workflows, and then working through remaining functionality, QA/QC findings, UI improvements, and production readiness. A successful developer may continue working with us as ModWorks expands into additional areas of construction operations, logistics automation, IoT asset management, and project intelligence. ## When Applying Please include: 1. Examples of production applications you have personally built or substantially contributed to. 2. Your experience with Next.js, React Native/Expo, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS. 3. Any experience building multi-tenant SaaS applications. 4. Any experience with IoT, GPS tracking, geofencing, logistics, construction, or field-service applications. 5. Your experience working with existing production codebases. 6. Your preferred development and Git/PR workflow. 7. How you use AI-assisted development tools, if applicable. 8. Your availability and preferred working hours/time zone. Please **do not send a generic agency proposal**. We are particularly interested in developers who can understand a complex business workflow, independently reason through problems, and take ownership of delivering production-quality features.
