Add Community Features to Existing Baking Recipe Website
Overview
I am looking for a full stack developer to add community and social features to an existing baking recipe website.
The goal is to allow users to interact with recipes and share their own baking results, creating a community around the recipes.
Features to Implement
1. Comment on Recipes
Users should be able to:
* Comment on individual recipes
* View comments from other users
* Edit and delete their own comments
* See the username and date and time of each comment
* Display comments in a clean and responsive layout
2. Share Your Baking Result
Users should be able to post a photo showing how they tried a recipe.
For example:
A user makes a chocolate cake from the website, takes a photo of the result, and uploads it to that recipe's page.
Each post should include:
* User's uploaded image
* Optional caption or description
* Username
* Date posted
* The recipe it belongs to
3. Comment on Other People's Results
Users should be able to interact with other users' baking result posts.
For example:
* User A posts their finished cake
* User B can comment on the photo
* Other users can view the discussion
4. Image Uploads
Implement image uploading for baking result posts.
Requirements:
* Image upload from desktop and mobile
* Image preview before uploading
* Appropriate image size and optimization
* Secure file handling
* Store images using the existing storage system
* Prevent unnecessarily large uploads
5. User Authentication
The features should integrate with the website's existing authentication system.
Only authenticated users should be able to:
Post comments
Upload baking result images
Comment on other users' results
Edit and delete their own content
Unauthenticated visitors should still be able to view recipes, comments, and community posts.
6. Responsive UI
The new features must work well on:
* Desktop
* Tablet
* Mobile
The design should match the existing website rather than looking like a separate application.
Backend and Database
The developer will need to implement the necessary database structure and API functionality for:
* Recipe comments
* Baking result posts
* Comments on baking result posts
* Relationships between users, recipes, posts, and comments
* Image storage and retrieval
* Database design and relationships
The existing database, API, authentication, and storage architecture should be reused wherever possible.
Important
This is an existing project, so I am not looking for someone to create a completely new website.
You should:
* Understand the existing codebase before making changes
* Follow the current project architecture
* Reuse existing components and services where appropriate
* Avoid breaking existing functionality
* Keep the implementation clean and maintainable
* Make sure database and API changes are properly integrated with the frontend
Tech Stack
The existing application uses:
* React
* TypeScript
* Vite
* Node.js
* Express
* Supabase
* PostgreSQL
* Supabase Storage
Experience with these technologies is preferred.
Ideal Developer
I am looking for someone who:
* Has experience working on existing React and Node.js applications
* Is comfortable with Supabase and PostgreSQL
* Has experience with database design
