Backend Software Engineer (API Development, Golang, Python, MCP & AI Integrations)

SUMMARY We are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer proficient in Golang, Python, REST APIs, and modern AI development tooling, including Model Context Protocol (MCP). The role involves building and maintaining backend services, developing internal tools, automating workflows, integrating third-party services, and improving existing systems. Our development environment includes Docker, OpenAPI specifications, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and AI-assisted development workflows. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating complex codebases, debugging production issues, and independently delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions. REQUIRED SKILLS - Golang (Go) and Python - REST API development and integration - OpenAPI Specification (OAS 3.0), JSON, and YAML - Docker and containerized development - Git, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines - Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrations - API testing, debugging, and troubleshooting - Strong understanding of backend architecture and software engineering best practices - Strong English communication and independent problem-solving skills PREFERRED SKILLS - Observability & Monitoring: Datadog, Splunk, logging, metrics, tracing, and production debugging - Analytics & Event Tracking: Amplitude, event instrumentation, and analytics integrations - AI Development Tooling: Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, and AI-assisted development workflows - API Tooling: OpenAPI validation, linting, SDK generation, and automated documentation - Python Tooling: uv, pyproject.toml, dependency management, and automation scripts - DevOps: AWS, Docker multi-stage builds, Makefiles, and deployment automation - Developer Productivity: Internal CLI tools, workflow automation, and developer experience improvements DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop, maintain, and improve Golang and Python backend services - Design, implement, and maintain REST APIs and third-party integrations - Build and integrate MCP servers and AI-powered developer tools - Develop Python scripts and internal automation tools - Work with OpenAPI specifications, validation, transformations, and documentation generation - Monitor and troubleshoot backend services using tools such as Datadog and Splunk - Implement and maintain analytics instrumentation and event tracking with platforms such as Amplitude - Maintain Docker environments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated development workflows - Debug production issues, investigate logs and metrics, and improve application reliability - Collaborate with cross-functional teams while independently managing assigned development tasks WORKING ARRANGEMENT This is a remote contractor position requiring strong English communication skills and reasonable availability during Pacific Time (PST/PDT) working hours. We value autonomy, reliability, and clear communication. Contractors may work on other projects provided they remain responsive, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality work.
