Fractional Head of Engineering | AI, Computer Vision, Geospatial Data
CoreTherm Aerial, LLC
CoreTherm is building an engineering intelligence platform designed to change how the built environment is understood.
We are developing MODO, our AI powered learning machine, alongside ATLAS, our data storage system. Our platform combines radiometric thermal imagery, geospatial data, engineering analysis, computer vision and longitudinal asset intelligence to identify patterns in building performance and condition.
We already have a four person technical team consisting of engineers and specialists across AI, GIS, remote sensing, mechanical engineering and data analysis.
We are now looking for a highly experienced Fractional Head of Engineering to lead that team and turn our technical vision into disciplined execution.
This is not a ceremonial management position.
We need someone who has built real systems, led technical teams, made difficult architecture decisions and knows how to take an ambitious technical product from concept to production.
Immediate Mission
We have two aggressive milestones:
October 1, 2026: Proof of Concept
Demonstrate that our core technology can successfully process and analyze real CoreTherm data and produce repeatable, technically defensible results.
November 1, 2026: MVP
Turn that proof into a functional MODO MVP with a repeatable workflow from data ingestion through engineering intelligence output.
You will inherit an active team and an active development effort.
Your first responsibility will be to understand what currently exists, determine what is missing, establish the critical path and organize the team around these two deadlines.
What You Will Own
You will lead technical execution across MODO and ATLAS.
You will establish clear architecture, engineering standards, documentation requirements, code review procedures, testing requirements and definitions of done.
You will assign clear ownership across the engineering team and ensure work is measurable and accountable.
You will review technical decisions and Draft Pull Requests early enough to prevent engineers from spending days building in the wrong direction.
You will identify blockers quickly and resolve them.
You will translate the founder’s product vision into clear technical requirements without losing the larger objective.
You will report directly to the Founder and CEO.
Who We Are Looking For
Ideally, you have 15 or more years of serious technical experience with significant engineering leadership responsibility.
You have personally helped take complex software, AI, data or scientific products from POC through MVP and into production.
You should have strong experience in several of the following areas:
AI and machine learning systems
Computer vision
Data pipelines and ingestion architecture
Cloud architecture
Python and modern software engineering
Geospatial systems
GIS
Remote sensing
Scientific computing
Sensor or imagery datasets
Large image datasets
Computer vision pipelines
Technical product architecture
GitHub workflows and code review
Managing distributed international engineering teams
Experience with radiometric thermal data, building science or engineering analytics is a major advantage, but not required.
What We Do NOT Need
We are not looking for someone whose primary skill is running meetings.
We are not looking for someone who has spent the last decade completely removed from technical architecture.
We are not looking for someone who immediately wants to rebuild everything using their preferred technology stack.
We need someone capable of looking at what exists, determining what works, identifying what does not and getting the team moving quickly toward the objective.
The Person
You should be calm under pressure, extremely disciplined and comfortable making decisions.
You should be able to challenge engineers technically while earning their respect.
You should be comfortable working directly with a highly involved founder who understands the industry and product vision but is not a software engineer.
You should care about shipping.
You should care about documentation.
You should care about repeatability.
And you should understand the difference between building interesting technology and building a company.
When Applying
Please do not send a generic proposal.
Start your response by answering these three questions:
1. Tell me about a technical product that was behind schedule when you took control of it. What did you do during your first 30 days?
2. Describe a POC or MVP involving AI, computer vision, geospatial data, scientific data or another technically complex dataset that you personally helped take from concept to working product.
3. If you inherited four engineers, an October 1 POC deadline and a November 1 MVP deadline, what would you do during your first five working days?
We are moving quickly.
For the right person, this could develop into a significant long term leadership position within CoreTherm.
