About the Role
You will build an enterprise internal developer platform on Port.io as part of a single full-stack engineering pool.
The work spans portal configuration-as-code, TypeScript and Node.js integration services, and React experiences,
and you will move between integration and portal work as the backlog demands. The platform is judged on
developer adoption, so we look for engineers who treat platforms as products. You will be part of the Portugal
engineering team, working closely with teams in the UK and India.
Key Responsibilities
• Portal engineering: Build the Port.io implementation as configuration-as-code: blueprints, entities,
scorecards, self-service actions and RBAC.
• Integration services: Build TypeScript and Node.js services that connect the portal to ServiceNow
(approvals, CMDB), identity, observability and the delivery toolchain, using APIs, webhooks and event-
driven components.
• Portal experiences: Build the React and TypeScript experiences developers use: catalogue pages, self-
service forms, scorecards, dashboards and custom widgets.
• Catalogue accuracy: Build ingestion that keeps the catalogue accurate across GitHub, cloud platforms
and enterprise systems.
• Adoption: Instrument, measure and improve adoption, including self-service success rates and developer
feedback loops.
• Quality / leadership: Tested, documented, reviewable code at every level. Seniors also set standards,
lead design decisions and mentor.
Required Skills
• Full-stack TypeScript: Production TypeScript on both sides: Node.js services, REST APIs and
webhooks, plus working React. Your depth may lean one way, but you need real ability on both, because
this team flexes.
• Configuration-as-code: Fluency treating structured configuration (JSON/YAML) as first-class,
versioned, reviewed code.
• Testing discipline: Automated testing as a habit, with unit and integration tests written alongside the
code. Strong Git and code review practice, and clear written and spoken English.
• Secure coding: Sound practices around secrets handling, authentication flows, least-privilege access and
dependency hygiene.
• Applicable for Senior roles only (6+ years): 2+ years on internal developer platforms or DevEx tooling,
with Port.io strongly preferred and Backstage accepted. You should be able to own components end to
end and mentor.
Preferred Skills
• IDP experience (applicable for mid-level only): Exposure to developer portals or internal tooling.
• Python / Ocean: Python for custom integrations using the Ocean framework.
• Adoption mindset: Experience driving tooling adoption, treating the platform as a product with users
rather than a request queue.
• Delivery context: GitHub Actions and Terraform awareness, Kubernetes, and API security patterns such
as OAuth, OIDC and token handling.
Technologies & Tools
The platform environment:
• Developer portal: Port.io, or a Backstage background: catalogue, blueprints, self-service actions and
scorecards, with configuration-as-code in JSON and YAML. Custom integrations use the Ocean
framework in Python, plus the Port API and Terraform provider.
• Languages: TypeScript, Node.js and React, with Python for custom integrations and JQ for data
mapping.
• Orchestration: GitHub Actions, with Temporal for durable workflows.
• Delivery toolchain: GitHub and Terraform, an IaC quality and security stack (Wiz, Checkov, OPA, tflint,
Infracost, Terratest), and k6 performance testing running on Kubernetes.
• Integrations: ServiceNow for approvals and CMDB, observability tooling, and enterprise identity and
RBAC.
