# Senior Software Engineer – Code Review, Architecture & CI/CD for AI-Powered Jewelry Try-On Platform
## About the Project
We are building AIJewel, an AI-powered virtual jewelry try-on platform for jewelry retailers.
The platform combines:
* JavaScript / TypeScript
* Node.js backend services
* REST APIs
* Next.js / web application
* Unity-based virtual jewelry try-on
* Image processing and AI components
* AWS cloud services
* Git-based development
* CI/CD pipelines
* Microservice-oriented architecture
We currently have a junior developer working on the product. We are looking for an experienced senior engineer with 10+ years of software development experience who can act as a technical reviewer, mentor, and engineering advisor.
This is not primarily a greenfield development role. The main objective is to review the existing codebase, identify technical problems, establish best practices, and guide or implement improvements where necessary.
## What You Will Do
### 1. Code Review
Review code written by our junior developer and identify:
* Poor coding practices
* Maintainability issues
* Security vulnerabilities
* Performance problems
* Incorrect architecture or design patterns
* Duplicate code
* Error-handling issues
* Improper API design
* Database-related issues
* Scalability concerns
* Poor dependency management
* Insufficient testing
Provide clear and actionable feedback and, when necessary, implement the corrections yourself.
### 2. Establish Engineering Standards
Define practical development standards for the AIJewel project, including:
* JavaScript / TypeScript coding standards
* Node.js best practices
* API design standards
* Error handling
* Logging
* Configuration management
* Environment variables and secrets
* Authentication and authorization
* Input validation
* Dependency management
* Unit and integration testing
* Git branching and pull-request standards
* Code review checklist
* Documentation standards
The junior developer should be able to follow these standards for future development.
### 3. Java Expertise
We specifically want someone with strong Java experience, preferably including:
* Java
* Spring / Spring Boot
* REST APIs
* Microservices
* Object-oriented design
* Design patterns
* SOLID principles
* Multithreading and concurrency
* Exception handling
* Unit testing
Java experience is important because we want someone with strong enterprise software engineering fundamentals, even though the current AIJewel backend is primarily Node.js.
### 4. JavaScript / Node.js
Strong hands-on experience is required in:
* JavaScript
* TypeScript
* Node.js
* Express.js or equivalent framework
* REST APIs
* Async programming
* API authentication
* API validation
* Error handling
* Performance optimization
* Microservices
* Integration with third-party services
You must be comfortable reading and modifying an existing Node.js codebase.
### 5. CI/CD Pipeline Review
Review our existing CI/CD implementation and recommend improvements.
Experience with:
* GitHub / GitLab
* GitHub Actions
* GitLab CI/CD
* Jenkins
* Docker
* Automated builds
* Automated testing
* Deployment pipelines
* Environment management
* Rollback strategies
* Release management
* Security scanning
* Dependency scanning
You should be able to identify where our current pipeline is weak and implement improvements where required.
### 6. AWS / Cloud
AWS experience is strongly preferred.
The application may involve services such as:
* AWS Amplify
* API Gateway
* Lambda
* EC2
* S3
* CloudFront
* Cognito
* DynamoDB
* CloudWatch
* IAM
You don't need to be an AWS architect, but you should understand how application code, APIs, CI/CD, and cloud deployment fit together.
### 7. Junior Developer Mentoring
You will work with our junior developer and establish a professional development workflow.
For example:
Junior Developer → Git Branch → Pull Request → Senior Code Review → Corrections → Automated Tests → CI/CD → Deployment
The objective is to make sure the junior developer learns how to produce production-quality code rather than simply having the senior developer rewrite everything.
## Required Experience
### Must Have
* 10+ years of professional software development experience
* Strong Java experience
* Strong JavaScript experience
* Strong Node.js experience
* TypeScript experience
* REST API development
* Microservices experience
* Git, GitHub, or GitLab
* CI/CD pipeline experience
* Code review experience
* Unit and integration testing
* Strong understanding of software architecture
* SOLID principles and design patterns
* Security best practices
* Performance optimization
* Ability to work with an existing codebase
* Ability to mentor junior developers
### Strongly Preferred
* AWS experience
* Docker
* Next.js / React
* PostgreSQL / MySQL / MongoDB
* Redis
* OpenAPI / Swagger
* Automated security scanning
* Application monitoring and logging
* AI/ML application experience
* Computer vision or image-processing application experience
* SaaS product development experience
## What We Expect From You
We are looking for someone who can look at an existing codebase, understand the architecture, identify what is wrong, explain why it is wrong, and either guide the junior developer or implement the necessary correction.
You should be comfortable challenging existing implementations when they are not scalable, secure, maintainable, or production-ready.
We are not looking for someone who simply approves pull requests.
We want someone who can help establish a strong engineering foundation for the product.
## Initial Deliverables
During the initial engagement, you will be expected to:
1. Review the existing repository and architecture.
2. Identify major technical risks.
3. Review the existing Node.js and JavaScript code.
4. Review API design and implementation.
5. Review security practices.
6. Review error handling and logging.
7. Review testing strategy.
8. Review Git branching and pull-request practices.
9. Review CI/CD pipelines.
10. Identify performance and scalability issues.
11. Create a prioritized technical-improvement list.
12. Establish coding and review standards.
13. Review the junior developer's ongoing work.
14. Implement critical fixes where necessary.
15. Mentor the junior developer on better implementation practices.
## Working Model
This will initially be a part-time consulting and code-review engagement.
We expect approximately 5–10 hours per week, depending on the development workload.
The engagement can become ongoing if the collaboration works well.
## Important
You will be working with proprietary product code and business logic.
An NDA will be required before access to the complete private repository and sensitive product information.
The selected developer must personally perform the work. Please do not apply if you intend to subcontract the work to another developer.
## How to Apply
Please provide:
1. A brief summary of your 10+ years of experience.
2. Years of experience with Java.
3. Years of experience with JavaScript and TypeScript.
4. Years of experience with Node.js.
5. Your CI/CD experience.
6. Your experience performing code reviews for junior developers.
7. Your experience with AWS.
8. Links to GitHub, portfolio, or examples of relevant projects, if available.
9. Your hourly rate.
10. Your availability in hours per week.
### Please answer this question in your proposal:
If you inherited a Node.js application written by a junior developer, what are the first 10 things you would inspect before approving the code for production?
We will use this question to evaluate your engineering depth.
