We’re seeking an AI engineer to help build and improve a platform focused on AI-driven solutions. You’ll work on developing core platform features, integrating AI models, and supporting ongoing enhancements. The role involves collaborating with the team to deliver reliable, scalable solutions and help shape the platform’s technical direction. If you have experience building AI-powered systems and want to contribute to a growing product, we’d love to hear from you. # Senior AI Engineer / Technical Lead ## AI-First Health, Wellness and Business Operations Platform **Location:** Melbourne preferred; hybrid or remote considered **Engagement:** Contract initially, with potential to become an ongoing technical leadership role **Experience:** Senior level only ### About the opportunity THERAPY™ Neurowellness is a rapidly growing, founder-led health and wellness business based in Eltham, Melbourne. We are building a connected digital ecosystem spanning: * THERAPY™ Neurowellness * Therapy Mental Health * Our member and client platforms * Studio, hospitality and event operations * A proprietary women’s health application currently in development We are looking for a highly experienced Senior AI Engineer and Technical Lead to help architect and build **Amber OS**—a private AI-powered command centre connecting our operations, data, platforms and decision-making. This is not a basic chatbot project. The goal is to create a secure intelligence layer that can understand what is happening across the businesses, identify priorities and risks, automate repetitive work, support the team and provide the founder with a clear, real-time view of operations. The successful person will combine strong software engineering, AI architecture, systems integration and product thinking. You must be comfortable working directly with a fast-moving founder, turning complex ideas into practical systems and taking ownership from architecture through to deployment. ### What you will build Amber OS will ultimately provide one secure command centre across the business, including: * Daily priorities, decisions and deadlines * Operational and financial visibility * Client and member journey insights * Staffing, HR and recruitment workflows * Marketing planning and content operations * Leads, partnerships and growth opportunities * Risk, compliance and incident visibility * Project and product-development tracking * Reporting and executive intelligence * Secure internal AI assistants for different business functions You will also support the technical development of our proprietary women’s health application. Details of this platform will be shared with shortlisted candidates under confidentiality. The application already has early product and prototype work completed. The immediate focus is a streamlined, commercially viable first release, with its more advanced AI and personalisation capabilities introduced in carefully planned stages. ### Key responsibilities * Audit our existing platforms, prototypes, integrations and technical assets. * Design the technical architecture for Amber OS and the broader digital ecosystem. * Develop a secure, scalable data and integration layer across multiple business systems. * Connect platforms through APIs, webhooks and appropriate middleware. * Integrate systems including websites, member portals, booking platforms, Momence, CareMaster, Microsoft Outlook and other operational tools. * Build internal AI assistants and automated workflows for operations, marketing, HR, accounts, growth and executive reporting. * Develop reliable retrieval and knowledge systems using approved company information. * Establish clear permission levels so team members only access information relevant to their roles. * Create dashboards and interfaces that are intuitive for non-technical users. * Support the development and launch planning of the women’s health application. * Assess existing prototype work and recommend what should be retained, rebuilt or simplified. * Implement testing, evaluation and monitoring for AI-generated outputs. * Establish appropriate human approval points for sensitive, financial, clinical or client-related actions. * Build secure audit trails and documentation. * Manage cloud infrastructure, deployment processes and system reliability. * Translate founder ideas into prioritised technical requirements and delivery stages. * Identify technical risks early and communicate them clearly. * Work with external developers, designers or specialists where required. * Maintain clean, documented and transferable code. * Ensure all intellectual property created for the project is owned by the relevant business entity. ### Privacy, security and clinical governance Our businesses manage sensitive personal, health, disability and operational information. Security and responsible AI development are essential. You will be expected to design for: * Australian Privacy Principles and applicable privacy requirements * Secure handling of health and disability-related information * Explicit consent and data-use controls * Role-based access permissions * Separation of information between business entities * Encryption in transit and at rest * Authentication and identity management * Audit logging and traceability * Data retention and deletion controls * AI output evaluation and hallucination management * Human review of high-risk actions * Protection against unauthorised model training or data reuse * Clear distinction between wellness information and regulated clinical advice * AHPRA, NDIS and TGA-aware digital workflows where relevant ### Required experience * Demonstrated experience as a Senior Software Engineer, AI Engineer, Solutions Architect or Technical Lead. * Strong experience building and deploying production-grade AI systems. * Experience working with leading language-model APIs and model orchestration. * Strong understanding of retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge systems, embeddings and vector search. * Experience designing AI agents or multi-step automated workflows. * Strong Python and/or TypeScript engineering capability. * Experience with modern web applications and cloud infrastructure. * Strong API, webhook, OAuth and third-party integration experience. * Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL. * Understanding of vector databases and structured knowledge retrieval. * Experience implementing authentication, role-based access and secure data architecture. * Strong understanding of testing, observability, error handling and production monitoring. * Ability to evaluate AI outputs for reliability, safety and accuracy. * Experience taking a product from concept or prototype into a stable production environment. * Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to a non-technical founder. * Strong documentation and handover practices. * Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and take genuine ownership. ### Highly regarded * Experience in healthcare, mental health, women’s health, wellness, disability or regulated environments. * Knowledge of Australian health-data and privacy requirements. * Experience building internal business operating systems or executive intelligence platforms. * Experience with mobile application development using React Native, Flutter or equivalent. * Experience with CRM, membership, booking or practice-management systems. * Experience building analytics and executive dashboards. * Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Outlook integrations. * Experience with payment, subscription or membership platforms. * Experience designing human-in-the-loop AI systems. * Experience managing other engineers or external development teams. * Previous work in an early-stage, founder-led or high-growth environment. ### Initial priorities During the first stage, we expect the successful candidate to: 1. Review the existing technical environment and prototype assets. 2. Identify any immediate security, architecture or ownership risks. 3. Produce a clear system architecture and phased development roadmap. 4. Define the central data and permissions structure. 5. Prioritise the highest-value Amber OS workflows. 6. Build an initial working version of the executive command centre. 7. Begin priority integrations across the existing business systems. 8. Assess and stabilise the women’s health application pathway. 9. Establish documentation, testing, deployment and governance standards. 10. Recommend the appropriate longer-term engineering team structure. ### What success looks like Within the first several months, we want to have: * One clear technical architecture across the ecosystem * Reliable integrations between priority systems * A secure and usable first version of Amber OS * Reduced manual administration and duplicated work * Better visibility of priorities, risks, deadlines and opportunities * Strong data permissions and governance * A defined pathway for the women’s health application * A practical roadmap for expanding the AI capability safely * Well-documented systems that are not dependent on one person ### Who will thrive in this role You will suit this opportunity if you are: * Commercially minded as well as technically strong * Comfortable creating structure in a complex environment * Able to move quickly without compromising security or quality * Curious and proactive * Direct and transparent in your communication * Comfortable challenging assumptions when there is a better technical pathway * Excited by the opportunity to build something from the ground up * Interested in health, mental health, women’s health and whole-person wellbeing * Looking for meaningful ownership rather than a narrowly defined engineering ticket list ### Confidentiality and intellectual property This role will involve access to confidential business models, product concepts, health-platform architecture and proprietary intellectual property. Shortlisted candidates will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving detailed information about the women’s health application or unreleased platform features. All code, architecture, documentation, designs, workflows and intellectual property created through the engagement must be assigned to the relevant contracting business entity. ### How to apply Please include: * A short introduction explaining why this project interests you * Your CV or LinkedIn profile * Your GitHub, portfolio or examples of relevant production systems * Details of AI products or internal platforms you have personally architected or built * Your specific role in each example * Experience integrating multiple business systems * Experience working with sensitive or regulated data * Your preferred technology stack for a project of this nature * Your location and availability * Your proposed hourly, daily or project rate * Whether you are applying as an individual or through an agency Please do not submit a generic AI-generated proposal. We are particularly interested in what you have personally built, the technical decisions you made and what is currently operating in production. **Applications from senior individual contributors and hands-on technical leads are strongly encouraged.**
