AI Automation Developer – Shopify, Gmail, Web App & Playwright

We're looking for an experienced AI Automation Developer/Architect to build a reliable automation system connecting Shopify, Gmail, our custom web app, and Playwright-based browser workflows. The goal is to streamline customer support, order tracking, and internal operations while maintaining accuracy, security, scalability, and human review where needed. Project Scope The initial phase focuses on an AI-powered customer support and order-tracking workflow: Customer Email → Intent Detection → Shopify Order Match → Tracking Lookup → AI Reply → Gmail Draft When a customer emails through Gmail about an order or shipment, the system should identify their request, locate the relevant Shopify order using the order number or customer email, retrieve the latest available fulfillment/tracking information, and generate a response based only on verified data. The response should be saved as a Gmail draft for human review. No customer emails should be sent automatically during the initial phase. The system must not guess or invent tracking numbers, delivery dates, order statuses, carriers, or other order information. If an order cannot be confidently matched, multiple possible matches exist, tracking information is unavailable, or verification fails, the case should be flagged for manual review. Web App & Playwright Integration The project also includes integrating our proprietary web application with the automation system. This may involve connecting APIs and external services, triggering workflows within the application, and establishing a foundation for future automation and AI features. Where an API is not available or does not provide the required functionality, Playwright can be used for browser/UI automation to perform necessary tasks within the web app or external platforms. Core Responsibilities - Build automation across Shopify, Gmail, the web app, and Playwright - Implement AI-based email intent classification and response generation - Retrieve and process Shopify order, fulfillment, and tracking information - Generate accurate Gmail drafts for human approval - Add appropriate validation, error handling, and manual-review workflows - Develop Playwright browser automation where required - Securely manage API keys, credentials, and sensitive information - Build the system in a modular way so additional use cases can be added later, such as delayed shipments, invoicing, damaged/missing items, technical support, supplier communication, and selected automated responses Tech Stack Experience with n8n, Make.com, Playwright, or a comparable automation/orchestration platform is preferred. All workflows, credentials, configurations, and source code must remain within our infrastructure and accounts, with full ownership retained by us.
