Backend/Fullstack developer for class booking platform

We need a CRM system to help instructors manage student relationships, track engagement, and improve retention. We're looking for a Node.js developer to build the backend APIs and integrate them into our React dashboard. This is a focused, 2–3 week paid trial task. Scope is clear, deliverables are defined, and there's strong potential for ongoing work if you're a great fit. What You'll Build We'll ship a basic but functional CRM with these core features: Backend APIs (Node.js/Express): -Student Profile Management — extended student records with engagement tracking, preferences, notes -Communication History — log instructor-student interactions (emails, SMS, calls, class messages) -Follow-up Reminders — create, manage, and track follow-up tasks for instructors -Student Engagement Tracking — attendance trends, class frequency, churn signals -Email/SMS Templates — reusable templates for class confirmations, cancellations, promotions -Reporting Endpoints — instructor dashboards showing student lifetime value, retention rate, etc. Frontend Integration (React): -Instructor dashboard showing student list with engagement metrics -Student detail view with communication history and follow-ups -Simple reporting page (charts, trends, export CSV) -Task/reminder creation modal Database Schema: -Extend Student model with engagement fields -Create Communication (email, SMS, notes) collection -Create FollowUp Task collection -Create EmailTemplate collection Responsibilities -Design & build REST APIs for all CRM features listed above -Database schema design — normalize student, communication, and task collections -Server-side validation — ensure data integrity and security -Error handling — graceful failures, proper HTTP status codes, meaningful error messages -Integration — connect APIs to React dashboard components (forms, lists, modals) -Documentation — README + API docs (Postman collection or Swagger) -Basic testing — unit tests for validation, integration tests for key endpoints -Code quality — clean, maintainable code with clear commit messages
