Update an existing WordPress blog built with Elementor. The project covers the blog listing page, individual article templates, content organisation, technical SEO, performance, and publishing workflow.
The goal is an elegant, professional blog that is easy to read, fast to use, and simple to maintain.
Required work, in order
1. Audit the existing setup
Review WordPress, Elementor templates, theme, plugins, hosting, and existing SEO configuration.
Identify layout problems, conflicting settings, unnecessary plugins, and broken links.
Record baseline mobile and desktop performance for the blog and both existing articles.
Provide a prioritised implementation plan.
2. Create backups and a testing environment
Back up the database, uploads, theme, and settings.
Complete development on a staging site.
Keep staging protected from public indexing and prepare a rollback plan.
3. Redesign the blog listing page
Improve the use of available desktop space and create a balanced, responsive layout.
Retain an elegant visual style while improving text readability and contrast.
Add a short introduction explaining what readers can find.
Present each article with a consistent image crop, title, relevant category, full publication date, short excerpt, and clear “Read article” link.
Ensure the layout looks intentional with the current two posts and scales as more are published.
Supply desktop and mobile mockups before implementation.
4. Correct categories and improve discovery
Replace mismatched categories with relevant topics such as Bridal Hair, Bridal Makeup, Wedding Preparation, and Advice.
Assign existing articles accurately.
Add accessible topic navigation and working blog search.
Create useful category archive layouts.
Add crawlable pagination when the number of articles requires it.
5. Build a consistent article template
Use one reusable template across existing and future posts.
Improve paragraph width, font size, line spacing, headings, and image placement.
Keep the opening title and image proportionate so readers can reach the article easily.
Display the real author, publication date, and genuine update date.
Include breadcrumbs, a table of contents for longer articles, and relevant related posts.
Standardise whether comments are enabled; add moderation and spam protection if retained.
6. Fix heading structure
Use one clear primary H1 for each page.
Change the shared enquiry heading to an appropriate lower heading level.
Remove empty headings.
Apply consistent H2 and H3 formatting throughout articles.
7. Improve images
Review existing article and thumbnail images for quality, duplication, and unnecessary file size.
Generate appropriately sized responsive images and modern formats where supported.
Set image dimensions to reduce layout movement.
Add natural, descriptive alternative text to meaningful images; leave decorative images appropriately empty.
Lazy-load below-the-fold images while prioritising the main visible image.
8. Complete on-page SEO
Configure unique, editable SEO titles and meta descriptions for the blog, articles, and useful category pages.
Add relevant internal links between articles and appropriate service, gallery, and enquiry pages.
Configure social-sharing titles, descriptions, and preview images.
Keep wording helpful and natural, avoiding repetitive keyword stuffing.
9. Validate technical SEO
Check canonical URLs, robots settings, XML sitemaps, indexability, and HTTP status codes.
Preserve existing article URLs wherever possible.
Where a URL must change, implement a relevant permanent redirect and update internal links.
Review old or unused blog URLs and agree on appropriate handling before removal.
Validate the existing Article and breadcrumb structured data.
Replace the generic “admin” author with accurate author details and prevent duplicate schema from plugins.
10. Improve performance
Optimise caching, compression, fonts, CSS, and JavaScript.
Reduce unnecessary Elementor assets and plugin overhead where practical.
Measure the impact of the Instagram feed and defer its loading where beneficial.
Compare before-and-after PageSpeed Insights results using consistent conditions.
Review Core Web Vitals using real-user data where available, and document any hosting or third-party limitations.
11. Improve enquiry paths
Add a relevant, clearly styled enquiry link within or after each article.
Connect readers to suitable services and portfolio examples.
Check contact links and form behaviour.
Track completed enquiries where technically available, alongside enquiry-link clicks.
12. Make publishing easy
Set up reusable templates and editable fields for excerpts, featured images, categories, author details, and SEO metadata.
Ensure new posts automatically appear correctly on the blog and relevant archives.
Provide a short publishing guide so future posts maintain the same design and SEO structure.
13. Test, launch, and hand over
Test the blog, articles, category pages, search, menus, and enquiry paths across mobile, tablet, and desktop.
Check keyboard access, focus visibility, contrast, image behaviour, and horizontal scrolling.
Confirm existing content and URLs remain accessible.
Launch the approved changes and verify that the live site is indexable.
Provide a completion report, performance comparisons, maintenance instructions, and a defined period for fixing implementation bugs.
Required experience
WordPress, Elementor, PHP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, technical SEO, performance optimisation, and staging/deployment workflows.
