Automation to place and dimension parts in our drawing standard Alternatives: Automatic drawing dimensioning from mixed CAD, PDF and image input CAD developer: automated generation of dimensioned drawings (DXF/Python) Background: We receive part geometry in a mix of formats: 3D models, DWG/DXF, PDF and sometimes plain images. From these, our engineering team produces the drawing by hand: placing the views, applying the dimensions, and putting everything into the sheet format and style we have always used. It is repetitive work and we want to automate it. Goal: A system that takes an incoming part, places the views on our drawing template and dimensions them according to our conventions, producing an editable file that an engineer reviews and finishes in minutes instead of drawing from scratch. We are not looking for an image generator. The output must be a real drawing — editable, with dimensions as proper entities rather than text painted on top of the geometry. Input (mixed, by level of difficulty) Level A — 3D models (STEP or native): automatic view projection and dimensioning Level B — 2D vector files (DXF, DWG, vector PDF): recognition of geometric entities, then dimensioning Level C — raster input (scans, photos, scanned PDFs): geometry vectorization, then handled as Level B, with lower accuracy and expected manual review Levels A and B are the priority. Level C is of interest to us but we treat it as a later goal — please price it separately in your proposal. Our drawing style has to be encoded! This is the core of the job. Our conventions must become a rule set we can configure ourselves, not logic hard-coded into the software. They cover at least: choice and arrangement of views, scale, sections and detail views title block, layers, dimension styles, fonts, text height, arrowheads dimensioning rules: which datums to work from, when to use chain vs. baseline dimensioning, how to handle holes, threads, radii and chamfers general tolerances and the cases where specific tolerances must be called out spacing, alignment and rules that keep dimensions from overlapping
