PyQt Desktop Application Enhancements Overview This project involves a defined set of updates to an existing Python desktop application built with PyQt. The work is not a ground-up build — it is a scoped list of UI fixes, feature enhancements, and report-generation improvements to functionality that already exists. Full context — an application walkthrough and a detailed list of relevant variables — will be provided during the interview process. Scope of Work UI / Visual Consistency • Adjust panel background colors so figure/plot display areas look visually consistent with the rest of the interface • Remove an unwanted cell-highlight behavior in a data table Dynamic Configuration & Plotting • Update dropdown/group options that should change dynamically depending on which data module is selected (applies across five existing modules) • Maintain and update lists of plottable variables (scalars and arrays of varying lengths) • Fix existing bugs in a custom plotting feature • Add automatic axis-range detection based on array length, with the detected ranges auto-populated into the relevant input fields Data Tables & Export • Build/refine a custom table feature where users select a data group and variables, then export the data to Excel • Group variables of matching length onto the same Excel tab; put variables of differing length on separate tabs Report Integration • Add “include in report” functionality for custom figures and tables • Add checkbox controls so users can pick which figures/tables get included when generating a report • Improve a data-selection table so more rows display properly and are easier to review before generating a report Output Formatting • Fix formatting issues in auto-generated Word and PDF report outputs Ideal Skills & Experience • Strong Python + PyQt6 (or PySide2/6) desktop application development • Experience with Matplotlib (or similar) for plotting inside a Qt app • Experience with Excel generation libraries (e.g., openpyxl, xlsxwriter) • Experience with Word/PDF generation in Python (e.g., python-docx, reportlab, or similar) • Comfortable working within an existing codebase and matching established UI patterns, rather than redesigning from scratch • Clear communicator, able to work from a written scope and ask good clarifying questions Project Process • A full walkthrough of the application and detailed specs (variable lists, module details, etc.) will be provided during the interview process and at project kickoff • The task list above is fixed and well-defined — this is not open-ended feature development • Budget the project will be discussed during the interview process
