Full-Time Web Developer — Long-Term | 9 AM–5 PM Eastern Time Overview Coast2Coast First Aid & Aquatics Inc. is looking for an experienced Web Developer to join our team on a long-term, full-time basis. This is NOT a project-based freelance position. We are looking for someone who can work with us consistently, become familiar with our website and business, and take ownership of the ongoing technical health, maintenance and development of our website. Our website is one of the most important revenue-generating assets in our business. We continuously launch new pages, update designs, implement SEO improvements, troubleshoot technical problems and optimize the customer experience. We already have marketing and SEO teams. We now want a dedicated developer who can own the technical implementation side and allow those teams to focus on their actual responsibilities. REQUIRED WORKING HOURS You must be available and actively working Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time (Toronto time). This requirement is extremely important. Please do not apply if you cannot consistently work these hours. We are open to candidates anywhere in the world, but we specifically need someone whose regular working schedule overlaps with our Toronto team. This is intended to be an ongoing, long-term relationship rather than occasional freelance work. What You'll Be Responsible For You will become one of the primary people responsible for our website's technical implementation and day-to-day health. Responsibilities include: Implementing new website pages and templates Taking HTML/designs created by our marketing team and properly implementing them into our website Reviewing, cleaning up and improving AI-generated HTML, CSS and JavaScript before production Fixing responsive design problems Fixing mobile and tablet layout issues Troubleshooting website bugs Investigating and resolving production issues Improving website speed and performance Improving Core Web Vitals Implementing technical changes requested by our SEO team Implementing new landing pages and marketing initiatives Maintaining consistency across pages and templates Testing changes across desktop, tablet and mobile Cross-browser testing Finding and fixing broken layouts or functionality Improving existing code when appropriate Reducing duplicated or unnecessary code Maintaining clean and organized code Working with Git/version control Following proper staging, testing and production deployment procedures Maintaining appropriate rollback procedures Helping improve our QA process Identifying technical problems proactively Recommending improvements rather than waiting for us to identify every problem We Need an Owner, Not Just a Task-Taker This is extremely important. We do not want someone who only waits for instructions such as: "Please fix this button." We want someone who sees the broken button, investigates why it broke, checks whether the same issue exists elsewhere, fixes the underlying problem and tells us what happened. If you notice a mobile issue, tell us. If a page is unnecessarily slow, investigate it. If our marketing team gives you HTML that isn't properly structured, improve it. If AI-generated code is poor quality, don't blindly implement it. If we're asking for something that could cause an SEO, performance, security or usability problem, tell us. If there is a better way to accomplish something, recommend it. We want someone who takes pride in the website and gradually develops a deep understanding of how it works. Required Technical Skills You should be very comfortable with: HTML5 CSS3 JavaScript Responsive web development Mobile-first development Browser developer tools Debugging existing websites Cross-browser compatibility Git/version control Website performance optimization Core Web Vitals Basic technical SEO Development/staging/production workflows QA and regression testing Working within existing codebases Experience with modern front-end frameworks, CMS platforms and server-side development is valuable depending on your background. We care more about strong fundamentals and your ability to understand an existing system than whether you know every technology we use on day one. AI Development Tools We actively use AI in our business and encourage our developer to use AI tools when they improve productivity. Experience with tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar development tools is an asset. However: You must understand the code you're implementing. We are specifically looking for someone who can recognize when AI-generated code is incorrect, inefficient, insecure, unnecessarily complicated or likely to cause problems elsewhere. We want an excellent developer who becomes faster with AI—not someone who depends entirely on AI to develop. SEO Knowledge You do NOT need to be an SEO specialist. We already have an SEO team. However, you will work closely with them and should understand the technical implications of: Page speed Core Web Vitals Metadata Heading structures Canonical URLs Redirects Internal links Schema/structured data Crawlability Indexation JavaScript rendering Image optimization URL changes Website migrations Analytics/tracking implementation You should understand that seemingly small development changes can have significant SEO consequences on an established website. Communication Excellent communication is required. You should be comfortable: Communicating in English Participating in video calls Providing clear status updates Asking questions when requirements aren't clear Explaining technical problems to non-developers Raising concerns proactively Working directly with management, marketing and SEO teams We don't want to repeatedly ask: "What's happening with this?" You should proactively communicate progress, blockers and completion. Working Hours This position requires: Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time / Toronto time You must have: Reliable high-speed internet A reliable computer/workstation A professional environment suitable for calls Consistent availability during these hours Occasional flexibility may be possible, but your normal working schedule must match our team's Eastern Time business hours. Long-Term Opportunity We're specifically interested in a long-term relationship. We don't want to find a new developer every few months. Our ideal candidate becomes increasingly valuable over time by learning: Our website Our systems Our business Our marketing processes Our SEO requirements Our design standards Common technical issues How our team works For the right person, there will be consistent ongoing work and an opportunity to take significant ownership over our website. What Success Looks Like After the first few months, we should see: Faster website updates Faster resolution of technical problems Fewer mobile/responsive issues Fewer recurring bugs Better website performance Better QA before deployment Cleaner implementations Better communication between development, SEO and marketing Less technical implementation work being handled by the SEO team More proactive identification of website problems Clear technical ownership of the website Ideal Candidate You may be a strong fit if you: Have 3+ years of professional web development experience Have maintained real production websites Have worked remotely with international companies Are highly dependable Are detail-oriented Are a strong problem solver Communicate clearly Take ownership of your work Can work independently Don't require constant supervision Understand business priorities Are comfortable working directly with management Can prioritize multiple website requests Care about performance and user experience Are comfortable using AI development tools responsibly Want a stable, long-term position rather than constantly moving between short freelance projects Agency experience, e-commerce experience, lead-generation website experience or experience supporting high-traffic commercial websites is an asset. HOW TO APPLY Please do NOT send us a generic copy-and-paste proposal. Start your proposal with the words: "9–5 Eastern" This confirms that you read the posting and understand the required working hours. Then answer the following questions. 1. Location & Working Hours What country and city are you currently located in? Confirm that you can consistently work 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Please also tell us what those hours are in your local time zone. 2. Experience How many years of professional web development experience do you have? 3. Portfolio Provide 2–3 examples of websites you have personally worked on. For each one, explain specifically what YOU were responsible for. Do not simply send a list of URLs. 4. Troubleshooting Imagine you inherit a large existing website. It has: Mobile layout problems Duplicated CSS Slow pages Inconsistent templates Frequent small bugs after marketing updates What would you investigate during your first two weeks? Please explain your approach. 5. Mobile Debugging A page looks perfect at 1440px desktop width and looks fine on an iPhone, but the layout breaks at several widths between 700px and 1,100px. How would you investigate the problem? 6. AI Which AI development tools do you currently use? Give us one example of a situation where you would NOT trust AI-generated code without manually reviewing or testing it. 7. SEO A marketing team asks you to replace an existing high-ranking page with a completely redesigned page. Before publishing the new version, what technical or SEO-related things would you check? 8. Availability Are you currently working for other clients or employers? If yes, approximately how many hours per week are committed to them? 9. Long-Term Interest Are you looking for ongoing full-time work, or do you primarily prefer short-term freelance projects? 10. Compensation What is your expected monthly rate in USD for a long-term arrangement requiring approximately 40 hours per week and consistent 9 AM–5 PM Eastern Time availability? Please provide one number or a narrow range. Final Note We are not looking for the cheapest developer. We are looking for someone dependable, technically strong and interested in becoming a long-term member of our team. If you're excellent at what you do, communicate well and consistently deliver, we're interested in speaking with you.
