Technical Project Manager – SaaS Development Team

TeamAlert is an established SaaS workplace safety and emergency communication company serving organizations across the U.S. and internationally. We are looking for a part-time Technical Project Manager to manage the execution of our small, distributed software development team. This is an ongoing role for someone who can keep developers aligned, make progress visible, identify blockers early, and help ensure that priorities actually move from idea to completion. This is not a paperwork-heavy corporate PM role. We intentionally operate with a lean team and want enough structure to create accountability and predictability without unnecessary meetings or bureaucracy. What You’ll Own You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of our software development work, including: Managing and prioritizing work in Jira Coordinating backend, frontend, desktop/mobile, and related technical work Making sure every active project has a clear owner, next step, priority, and expected outcome Tracking progress against estimates, milestones, and expected delivery Identifying stalled work, blockers, unclear requirements, or projects taking longer than expected Following up with developers and making sure commitments do not quietly fall through the cracks Coordinating customer-reported bugs and technical issues with our support team Turning business priorities and feedback from leadership into clear development tasks Coordinating the QA/testing process and making sure completed work is properly tested before production Coordinating staging, release readiness, and production deployments Maintaining enough documentation that important knowledge does not live with one contractor Helping leadership understand development capacity and where engineering time is being spent Using Hubstaff and other project data to provide reasonable visibility into time allocation, workload, and accountability You will not be expected to personally perform all QA testing. We expect to have separate QA/testing support, but you will be responsible for making sure testing happens and issues are followed through to resolution. Our Technical Environment You do not need to code daily, but you must be technically comfortable enough to communicate effectively with developers and understand what they are telling you. Our environment includes: Python / Django backend React-based web application REST APIs .NET desktop and mobile applications AWS infrastructure GitHub Jira Hubstaff Development, staging, and production environments The product also includes integrations and features such as push notifications, SSO, emergency calling/E911-related functionality, and desktop/mobile releases. You should be comfortable discussing technical tradeoffs, asking intelligent follow-up questions, understanding dependencies, and recognizing when an explanation or estimate needs more scrutiny. Weekly Operating Rhythm We have a recurring development team meeting every Tuesday at 10:00 AM U.S. Central Time. You will be expected to lead or coordinate this meeting, keep it focused, document decisions and follow-ups, and ensure action items are carried forward. Because this role involves active coordination with U.S. leadership and developers, you must also be reliably available during a meaningful portion of the 10:00 AM–2:00 PM U.S. Central Time window on normal workdays. We do not expect you to work that entire four-hour period every day. We do expect you to be reachable and able to schedule collaboration during that window. What Success Looks Like After the first few months: Leadership can quickly see what every developer is working on Priorities are clear and understood Projects rarely sit idle without explanation Blockers are surfaced early rather than discovered late Developers have autonomy but also clear accountability Engineering time is being used reasonably Releases move through development, testing, staging, and production with fewer surprises Customer-reported technical issues are tracked through resolution Weekly development meetings are concise and useful Leadership does not need to directly manage developers to keep work moving The goal is accountability without micromanagement. What We’re Looking For Strong candidates will have: Proven experience managing software developers Experience managing a small remote or distributed development team Strong Jira or similar issue-tracking experience Experience with SaaS/software development workflows Strong written and spoken English Ability to communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical people Ability to respectfully challenge estimates, unclear explanations, or slow-moving work Strong follow-through and attention to detail Comfort working with hourly contractors Good judgment about when to add process and when not to Ability to operate independently without needing constant direction Nice to Have Experience with AWS-hosted SaaS applications Experience with Python/Django, React, .NET, APIs, or GitHub Experience coordinating QA testers Experience with security-related software work Experience managing mobile and desktop application releases Experience using Hubstaff or similar time/accountability tools Hours and Engagement Part-time contract Approximately 15–20 hours per week Ongoing relationship Worldwide candidates welcome Strong preference for candidates who can reliably overlap with U.S. Central Time Tuesday 9:00 AM - 11 AM Central weekly meeting attendance is required
