Laravel PHP Developer — Divorce-Specific Tax Rules Engine (SaaS Platform Integration)

We are looking for an experienced Laravel developer or small team to design and build a tax rules engine module for SecureSplit, a live SaaS platform serving divorce financial professionals including CDFAs, family law attorneys, and mediators. This is a defined, scoped project with clear phases and deliverables. It is not an open-ended engagement. This module will model the tax consequences of divorce-related financial decisions including alimony treatment, capital gains and cost-basis carryover on transferred assets, QDRO tax treatment, filing status changes, and dependency exemption modeling. It must integrate cleanly into our existing Laravel platform, not function as a standalone tool. The stack: Laravel 12, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8, Laravel Blade, AWS (EC2/ECS, S3), Bitbucket for version control. The module must be built natively in Laravel, consistent with our existing codebase. We already run a comparable 51-state rules engine in production, and the tax engine should follow a compatible architecture pattern. What you will build: A configurable, versionable tax rules engine covering federal divorce-specific tax rules in Phase 1. Rules must be configurable without a full redeploy since tax law changes annually. Full audit logging is required. The engine must be API-first internally so it can be called from our existing scenario-modeling workflows. Test coverage for calculation accuracy is a hard requirement given that our users are licensed professionals relying on this output. Deliverables: Technical design document for approval before development begins. Working module integrated into our staging environment. Automated test suite covering core calculation scenarios. Rules configuration guide, API reference, and plain-language compliance summary. Knowledge transfer session upon delivery. Project phases and estimated timeline: Phase 1: Design and architecture review, 2 weeks. Phase 2: Core engine build covering federal rules, 6 weeks. Phase 3: Integration, testing, and staging validation, 2 weeks. Phase 4: Documentation and knowledge transfer, 1 week. AWS experience with EC2, ECS, S3, and IAM. Demonstrated experience building configurable rules-engine style systems in tax, pricing, eligibility, or comparable domains. Experience in financial, legal, or other regulated data environments is strongly preferred. US timezone overlap is required. Prior tax domain knowledge is helpful but not required as rules will be defined collaboratively with our team.
