Startup Accountant / Fractional Controller – VC Reporting & Financial Operations (Hardware & AI)

ShyldAI is a venture-backed healthcare AI and hardware startup looking for a part-time Startup Accountant / Fractional Controller. We recently closed our Seed funding round  to accelerate deployments across U.S. health systems and need an experienced professional to manage financial operations, monthly closes, and investor reporting. We are seeking an experienced Startup Accountant / Fractional Financial Controller to manage our financial operations, establish robust GAAP-compliant reporting, and prepare monthly/quarterly investor updates for our VC partners and board. Key Responsibilities: VC & Board Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, Burn Rate Analysis, Runway Projections, and KPI dashboards) for leadership and institutional investors. Financial Operations & Bookkeeping: Manage day-to-day accounting functions, monthly financial close, AP/AR, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and expense management. Budgeting & Financial Modeling: Assist with budget vs. actuals (BvA) analysis, cash flow forecasting, and scenario planning as we scale health system deployments. Tax & Audit Compliance: Prepare schedules for year-end tax filings, support R&D tax credit studies, manage state sales tax compliance, and maintain clean audit readiness. Required Qualifications: Startup Experience: 3–5+ years of accounting or financial management experience specifically within venture-backed early-stage startups (Seed to Series A). VC Reporting Expertise: Proven track record of preparing investor-grade reports and understanding key venture metrics (gross margin, net burn, runway months, capital efficiency). Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online or NetSuite, Gusto/Rippling, Brex/Ramp, and Excel/Google Sheets modeling. CPA or Equivalent: CPA license or formal accounting background preferred.
