Web Application and IT Support

We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Web Application and IT Support Consultant to help maintain and improve our existing student portal and websites. Position Overview The Web Application and IT Support will work with our team to maintain and improve existing student portal, which is hosted on Hostinger and built primarily using PHP, HTML, and a database. The portal is an essential part of our academic operations. It allows students and administrators to manage course selections, maintain academic records, and generate student transcripts. In addition to supporting the portal, the Consultant will assist with routine updates, maintenance, and improvements to our two WordPress websites. Key Responsibilities: 1.Student Portal Maintenance and Development • Maintain and update FIA's existing student portal using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, andrelated technologies. • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within the portal. • Support and improve existing features related to course selection, student academicrecords, credit tracking, and transcript generation. • Assist with developing new features and improving the user experience for students andadministrators. • Work with the existing database and ensure accurate handling of student academicinformation. • Test updates and troubleshoot issues before deploying changes. 2.Database and Hosting Management • Assist with basic database maintenance and troubleshooting using MySQL or MariaDB. • Work with the Hostinger hosting environment to manage website files, configurations,and deployments. • Use SFTP and other appropriate tools to access and update website files. • Support regular backups, basic security practices, and website performance monitoring. • Document technical processes and maintain clear records of updates. 3.WordPress Website Management • Update and maintain FIA's two WordPress websites. • Make routine content, page layout, image, and design updates. • Manage basic plugins, themes, and website settings. • Troubleshoot common WordPress issues and support website performance and security. • Assist with improving the overall user experience and responsiveness of our websites. 4.Technical Support and Collaboration • Work closely with FIA's staff and existing IT personnel to understand systemrequirements and priorities. • Help identify opportunities to improve our technology systems and workflows. • Provide technical support for routine website and portal issues. • Communicate progress, document completed tasks, and provide recommendations forfuture improvements. Qualifications Required or strongly preferred: • Experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, SoftwareEngineering, or a related field. • Familiarity with PHP and HTML. • Basic knowledge of CSS and JavaScript. • Experience or coursework involving relational databases, preferably MySQL or MariaDB. • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and learn existing codebases. • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team. Preferred qualifications: • Experience maintaining an existing PHP-based web application. • Familiarity with Hostinger or other web hosting environments. • Experience using SFTP, phpMyAdmin, or similar tools. • Experience with WordPress, including page editing, themes, plugins, and basictroubleshooting. • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems. • Interest in educational technology or international education.
