Preferred qualifications

  • Experience: Intermediate
Filmmaker hiring a detail-oriented assistant editor for ongoing, per-project wedding work. This is execution, not creative story editing — but the b-roll needs a real eye, so please read the full scope before applying. For the right person, this can grow into more work — including junior editor and more creative tasks — if execution quality is consistently high. I give clear briefs, prompt feedback, and pay on time — I'd rather build one steady working relationship than churn through freelancers. Turnaround: 3–4 days from handoff. Software: Premiere Pro preferred. WHAT YOU RECEIVE (all prep is done by me): - H264 proxies only - Pre-built Premiere Pro project with bins - B-roll stringout timelines, pre-named, footage already loaded - A-roll already multicam-synced (4–6 cameras) and ready to switch - A detailed brief with each project, specifying exactly what's needed WHAT YOU DO, in order of importance: 1. B-ROLL (most important). Source clips are mostly 10–20 seconds, occasionally 40s–1 min. Go through them and pull the good moments — there may be several in one clip, and if so, keep them all. I make the final call between close options, so don't discard a strong moment just because another is slightly better. Drop jittery or unusable camera movement; keep intentional moves. Warp Stabilize where it genuinely helps. Clip lengths vary by type — most detail and crowd shots get trimmed short, while some master shots (e.g. photosession) stay longer — and the brief will specify per project. Judgment about the quality of what's worth keeping is the core of this role. 2. MULTICAM. Watch the synced 4–6 camera a-roll at 2–3x speed and switch angles (1/2/3…) for ceremony and reception. Sometimes first looks or other multicam sections too. 3. DANCING SEGMENT. Scrub the footage, cut the very bad parts, use a film dissolve between shots, and cut the audio on the beat of the played music when joining shots. PRICING: $250 flat per complex two-camera project. Median work time is around 5 hours, which is what makes this a competitive rate. Some lower-complexity or fewer-camera projects may also come up, priced accordingly (roughly $100–175) — exact pricing there can be settled once we're working together. Hourly is not offered; the prep removes the slow setup work. REQUIREMENTS: Premiere Pro, comfortable in a proxy workflow, a genuine eye for usable vs. jittery footage, consistent and reliable across recurring projects, careful follow-through on a written brief. PROCESS: one paid test project first, weighted toward the b-roll. A good fit becomes steady ongoing work with one filmmaker. SCREENING — applications that skip these are ignored: a) Start your proposal with the word STRINGOUT. b) In one or two sentences: a b-roll shot drifts and corrects itself with a small wobble in the middle — keep or cut, and why? And how do you spot the moments in a clip that are worth keeping? c) State your availability over the next few months and confirm you can hit a 3–4 day turnaround.
