AI Agent Consultant – Exploring Remote Autonomous WordPress Troubleshooting

**Project type:** Initial consultation / feasibility discussion, with potential for future implementation. ## Background I'm a freelance WordPress developer managing a number of client websites, primarily involving WordPress, WooCommerce, third-party plugins, custom PHP development and hosting. I'm interested in exploring whether autonomous AI agents (such as OpenClaw, Hermes or similar platforms) could take on some of the more time-consuming technical investigation and debugging work I currently perform. At this stage, I'm **not looking to commission a build or implementation**. I'd like to have an informed discussion with someone who has practical, hands-on experience deploying and working with autonomous AI agents. I'm particularly interested in agents that can run remotely, independently of my local computer, and that I can communicate with through something like Telegram, a web interface or a mobile app. ## Two real-world examples I'd like to use two current problems to explore what's realistically possible. **Scenario 1 – WordPress email delivery** A WordPress website uses Gravity Forms and WP Mail SMTP Pro. Form notifications are sent from info@ to two recipients: the same info@ address and an external Gmail address. The Gmail address receives the notification, but the info@ mailbox does not. Could a remote AI agent independently investigate this issue? For example: - What systems would it need access to? - Could it inspect WordPress settings, SMTP logs, DNS records and mail delivery information? - Could it identify the root cause, or at least narrow down the possibilities? - How much human intervention would be required? - What would its final diagnosis or report look like? **Scenario 2 – WooCommerce / PayPal payment failures** A WordPress website uses WooCommerce and PayPal to process payments. Over the past week or so, a significant proportion of transactions have been failing. Could an AI agent investigate failed orders, WooCommerce logs, PayPal responses, webhooks and relevant plugin configuration to determine why? Again, I'd like to understand how independently it could work, what access it would require, and what a realistic output might look like. ## What I'd like to discuss **1. Feasibility and capabilities** Can today's AI agents meaningfully investigate these kinds of problems, rather than simply provide generic troubleshooting suggestions? Can they independently form hypotheses, examine evidence, run diagnostic tests and work towards a root cause? Where are their limitations, and which tasks would still require my involvement? **2. Platform recommendations** Would OpenClaw, Hermes or another platform be most appropriate? I'm open to recommendations and would prefer a relatively simple, reliable solution over an unnecessarily complex system. **3. Hosting and configuration** What would the technical setup look like? Could the agent operate 24/7 on a remote VPS or cloud service, independently of my Mac? How would it securely access WordPress websites, hosting environments, logs and other systems? **4. Interaction and autonomy** Ideally, I'd like to communicate with the agent remotely, perhaps through Telegram. I'd like to be able to describe a problem, let the agent investigate independently, and receive a useful report. Longer term, I'd be interested in the agent implementing and testing fixes in staging environments, with my approval required before production deployment. **5. Costs and ongoing maintenance** I'd like to understand: - Initial setup complexity and likely implementation cost. - Ongoing hosting and AI model/API costs. - Whether costs are predictable or usage-based. - Maintenance, security and reliability considerations. - Whether the solution could be expanded to support multiple client websites. ## Initial engagement I'm initially looking for a **30–60 minute paid consultation**, ideally with someone who has already implemented autonomous agents with real tool access, rather than someone whose experience is limited to chatbots or basic AI workflows. I don't expect either example problem to be solved during the consultation. What I do want is a realistic assessment of what's possible, what isn't, and what a sensible first experiment might look like.
