Technical Developer Lead for Accounting Website

CXO Financial is a growing accounting, tax, payroll, and advisory firm in Grand Junction, Colorado. We're building a new website and a secure client portal and splitting the work across several freelancers. We need one experienced technical lead to own the architecture, coordinate the team, review all code, and make sure every piece works together at launch. You will be our single point of technical responsibility. You will not necessarily write most of the code, but you will decide how it fits together. What you'll do Set up and own CXO-controlled accounts: GitHub organization, cloud hosting, staging and production environments, CI/CD (automated testing and deployment), and monitoring. Choose and document the tech stack (proposed below; you may recommend changes in week 1). Write the architecture document, data model, and interface specs that the other freelancers build against. Help screen and onboard the other freelancers (secrets migration, website, portal, integrations, security testing). Run a 30-minute weekly sync and keep a shared task board current. Review and approve every pull request before merge. Own the launch checklist, the go-live, and the handoff documentation. Coordinate the independent security test and make sure findings are fixed. Proposed stack (you confirm in week 1) Portal: Next.js with TypeScript, a PostgreSQL database, and encrypted cloud file storage (Azure preferred, since we're on Microsoft 365). Client sign-in with multi-factor authentication. Secrets: Keeper PAM. No secrets stored in code or server files. Integrations: QuickBooks Online API, GoHighLevel API, and our self-hosted Hermes AI agent. Must have 5+ years building production web applications, including authentication, role-based access, and file storage. Experience leading or coordinating other developers. Experience with security-sensitive data (financial, health, legal, or similar). Clear written communication and reliable availability during US Mountain Time business hours. Nice to have Experience with the FTC Safeguards Rule, SOC 2, or IRS Publication 4557. QuickBooks Online API or GoHighLevel API experience. Experience building multi-tenant (firm → users → clients) applications. Engagement Hourly, about 8–15 hours per week for 3–4 months, then optional ongoing support. NDA required before detailed specifications are shared. All work product is owned by CXO Financial on payment.
