Backend Developer for Retail E-commerce Platform

Job Description We’re looking for an experienced Backend Developer to build the server-side architecture of a retail e-commerce platform. The platform will support product catalog management, search and filtering, shopping cart operations, checkout and payment processing, customer accounts, order management, and inventory tracking. You’ll work closely with the frontend developer to design and implement reliable APIs, manage business logic, and ensure seamless integration between the storefront and admin dashboard. The goal is to build a secure, scalable backend that can support the platform’s initial launch and future growth. What You’ll Work On - Backend Architecture: Design and develop the core backend infrastructure, business logic, and database structure. - Product Catalog: Implement product management, categories, attributes, variants, pricing, and product availability. - Search & Filtering: Develop efficient product search, filtering, sorting, and pagination functionality. - Shopping Cart & Checkout: Build cart management, pricing calculations, discounts, checkout workflows, and order creation. - Payment Integration: Implement secure payment gateway integrations and transaction processing. - Customer Accounts: Develop authentication, authorization, customer profiles, saved addresses, and order history. - Order Management: Implement order processing, status management, shipping updates, and order tracking functionality. - Inventory Management: Build stock tracking, inventory updates, and availability synchronization. - Admin Dashboard APIs: Develop backend services for product management, inventory control, order processing, and sales reporting. - API Development: Design and maintain REST APIs and/or GraphQL endpoints for seamless frontend integration. - Performance & Security: Optimize database queries, ensure data integrity, implement security measures, and prepare the backend for production. Tech Stack The backend technology stack is to be discussed and finalized based on the project requirements. Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and GraphQL would be valuable. Familiarity with authentication systems, payment gateways, cloud infrastructure, and third-party service integrations is also expected. What We’re Looking For We’re looking for a Backend Developer with 4+ years of professional experience building scalable backend systems and complex web applications. You should have experience designing database schemas, developing APIs, implementing authentication and authorization, and integrating third-party services. A solid understanding of e-commerce business logic, transaction processing, inventory management, and data consistency is important. We also value developers who write clean, maintainable code, can independently troubleshoot technical issues, and are comfortable collaborating with frontend developers and discussing architectural decisions. Experience with retail platforms, payment processing, order management systems, or admin dashboards is a strong plus. Nice to Have - Experience with automated testing and API documentation. - Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines. - Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure. - Knowledge of caching solutions and database performance optimization. - Experience implementing payment gateways, shipping APIs, and notification services. - Understanding of security best practices and data protection requirements. Project Scope The initial phase will focus on developing the core backend infrastructure for the storefront, product catalog, shopping cart, checkout, customer accounts, order management, inventory tracking, and admin dashboard. You’ll collaborate closely with the frontend developer to establish API contracts, integrate backend services, and ensure that all essential customer and administrative workflows are ready for production. As the platform evolves, we expect to introduce additional features, optimize existing functionality, and potentially extend the backend to support mobile applications through a shared API. We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of backend development and is interested in a long-term collaboration.
